Design Redesigned @ Bankfoot House TALK
Jump to: Map | Need to Know
Buildings either remain static forever or evolve over time due to structural necessity or functional repurposing. The award-winning Mary Grigor Centre at the Bankfoot House Heritage Precinct has evolved over the past six years to become a fully functional interpretive centre and archival store. Hear how observation, evaluation and planning led to the significant functional changes that can be seen today. From sight-unseen termites to the necessity to reseal floors and walls, the outcome has contributed to raising the level of collection management, exhibitions, and events. Staying true to the original design, the small theatrette now boasts a natural timber wall, which further enhances the centre’s wooden beam and raked ceilings. The repurposed theatrette showcases the First Nations at Bankfoot House virtual experience, which enables visitors to immerse themselves in a world prior to European settlement. Tour the precinct grounds to see other areas repurposed for interpretation.
